§ 32.01. MEMBERS; ELECTION, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPENSATION.

  • (A) Election. The City Council does elect not to divide the city into wards for city election purposes, but rather the election of Council members for the city shall be at large city-wide.

    (B) Term of office. Terms of office begin on January 1 following the election and shall be for two years.
    (C) Number of Council members. The number of Council members for the city is set at nine members.

    (D) Qualifications. A member shall be at least 18 years of age, shall be a qualified voter in the city and shall reside in the city throughout his or her term of office.

    (E) Compensation. Commencing with the terms of Council members starting on January 1, 2001, compensation is set at $7,000 per annum, payable monthly, together with existing insurance allowances. No member of the City Council shall receive any salary or per diem fee by reason of his or her membership on any city board or commission.

    (F) Effective January 2, 2011, the city shall no longer pay for health or dental coverage for the Council members or any of their family; however, so long as the city's insurance provider will permit it, City Council members may choose to independently pay for health and dental insurance coverage for himself or herself and/or his or her family members, under the city's health and dental care package.
